엄마는 내 손을 잡지 않았어요
유년 시절의 경험은 오랫동안 우리 삶에 영향을 미칩니다. 즐겁고 유쾌했던 기억이 몸과 마음에 건강한 밑거름이 되는가 하면, 별것 아닌 작은 상처가 어른이 되어서까지 아물지 않고 아프게 다가오기도 합니다. 『외할머니네』 속 수영이에게도 엄마와의 짧은 이별은 아마 쉽게 지워지지 않는 기억이 될 것 같아요.
수영이에게 동생이 생겼습니다. 오물오물, 고물고물 아기는 잘 놀다가도 툭 하면 울었습니다. 어떤 날은 밤새 울기도 했어요. 아기도, 수영이도, 엄마도 무척 힘들었을 거예요. 결국 엄마는 수영이를 외할머니에게 보내기로 했지요.
